After a two year hiatus, Formula 1 returned to the 5.807-kilometre long Suzuka International Racing Course this season for the 2022 Japanese Grand Prix. Max Verstappen managed to secure a pole position after finishing the fastest in Q3, ahead of Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz on second and third respectively.

2022 Japanese Grand Prix Qualifying 1
Current Championship leader Max Verstappen went fastest in Q1 with a lap time of 1:30.224, ahead of Carlos Sainz in second and Charles Leclerc on third. Fernando Alonso stood fourth, with Red Bull Racing’s Sergio Perez settling for fifth. Alex Albon, Pierre Gasly, Kevin Magnussen, Lance Stroll and Nicholas Latifi were the last five in the same order, and hence, did not make it to Q2.

The second qualifying was led by Sergio Perez, meanwhile his teammate Max Verstappen moved to third. The two Red Bulls were separated by veteran Fernando Alonso in second. Alonso’s stablemate Esteban Ocon was fourth fastest in Q2, ahead of Lewis Hamilton in fifth. Daniel Ricciardo, Valtteri Bottas, Yuki Tsunoda, Zhou Guanyu, and Mick Schumacher were disqualified in the second quali.

Max Verstappen managed to secure a pole position at the 2022 Japanese Grand Prix after going the fastest in Q3. Charles Leclerc missed out on pole by just +0.010 seconds, meanwhile Carlos Sainz finished third fastest. Sergio Perez came fourth, ahead of Esteban Ocon who takes P5 tomorrow.
Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, George Russell, Sebastian Vettel and Lando Norris will be lined up from 6th to 10th tomorrow. If Max Verstappen manages to convert the pole into a win at the Suzuka circuit tomorrow with the fastest lap, he will be able to seal the Championship.
