The X2 is a two-seater electric Vertical Take-off and Landing (eVTOL) flight, lifted by 8 propellers, two are placed at every corner of the vehicle. The manufacturer described the 90-minute test flight as an ‘important base for the next generation of flying cars.’
Minguan Qiu, General Manager of Xpeng Aeroht said, “We are making step-by-step (moves) to the international market. First, we selected Dubai city because Dubai is the most innovative city in the world.”
On Monday, XPeng Aeroht publicly tested the Xpeng X2 electric flying car for the first time in Dubai, according to a media release. The unmanned flight was tested at Skydive Dubai on the first day of Gitex Global 2022, as per the official release.
“The vehicle’s test drive represents a significant milestone for both the company and the international achievement of flying cars. Today’s flight is a major step in Xpengxo’s exploration of future mobility,” says Brian Gu, Vice Chairman and President of Xpeng.
The two-seater flying car can be operated in both manual and autonomous modes, and does not release carbon dioxide during flight, said Xpeng Aeroht. With a weight of about 1,675 lbs, the Xpeng X2 can fly at around 80 miles per hour for 35 minutes, states the company’s website.
Moreover, the company said that the two-seater flying car will be ideal for short-distance city journeys and future low-altitude city flights.
