Petrol and diesel prices held steady again on Friday, October 7, 2022, for over four months now. Earlier on May 21, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced an excise duty cut on petrol by Rs 8 per litre and Rs 6 per litre on diesel. The Maharashtra government announced the cut in Value-Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 3 per litre, respectively. On August 24, the Meghalaya government increased the VAT on petrol and diesel, owing to which petrol price in Shillong now costs Rs 96.83 per litre and diesel price stands at Rs 84.72 per litre.
In Delhi, petrol retails at Rs 96.72 per litre and diesel is priced at Rs 89.62 per litre. Petrol price in Mumbai is Rs 106.31 per litre, while diesel price in Mumbai stands at Rs 94.27 per litre.
