Sunny Singh: I like to do my homework and be prepared before I go on set

Actor Sunny Singh has found a footing in the entertainment industry, but his journey has been a long one. The Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety (2018) actor doesn’t discount all that he learnt before venturing into films.

“I started acting long back, with theatre and then did TV (Kasautii Zindagi Kay and Shakuntala). I started out in 2006, did ads, then TV and soon landed my first film, Akaash Vaani (2013),” he says.

But a lot has changed since then in terms of the way a project is prepped, including readings, workshops and a host of things. Singh believes in doing his homework and being fully prepared before shoot begins. “My competition has always been with myself. For me, what matters is the reading. You know the whole film’s story, your character and it’s thought, what is happening in the film and with other characters. So, you automatically know how you need to play your part,” says Singh. The actor, 37, adds, “I like to do my homework and be prepared. I mug up my dialogues to know the feel of the scene and then go on set. It should be spontaneous, hence if you know your dialogues beforehand, you can express them differently on set. I think that works a lot.”

Singh is currently awaiting the release of his next, Adipurush, alongside actors Prabhas and Kriti Sanon, and his first horror film. While his career trajectory has seen highs and lows, how does he view competition? “I am the kind of person who works and comes straight home. I want to give my best when I am working on set for a scene. If I give my best, it will reflect well on screen, and that’s my goal,” ends the Jai Mummy Di actor (2020).
